Cityscape does implement the use of dice and character sheets. However, the system itself is relatively simple and to the point, and it is only used during combat scenarios. If you character uses their abilities outside of combat, there is no need to roll dice to decide whether they achieve success. We leave this strictly in our writer’s hands.

XP Points

All characters begin with a baseline that varies based on the species and their overall durability. From then on, points are acquired through activity on the Discord server and auto-leveling, as well as events and scene that drive the story forward.

Auto-leveling is calculated by the Amaribot. All activity is tracked based on the amount of posts and messages. 1XP is given for every two levels. 1 skill point to spend is given for every 10 levels. We are currently in the testing phase of this method of point tracking, so bear with us should a few modifications happen later down the road.

Skill Points

Every character begins the storyline with 10 skill points to spend in any of the six categories: hand-to-hand, marksmanship, knives, magic, perception and stealth. A beginning character cannot have any more than four points in one category, though you may spend earned points wherever you choose.

Hand-to-Hand: Experience and knowledge of martial arts, self-defense, brawling, sheer brute force, etc.

Marksmanship: Experience and knowledge of anything to do with hitting a target with a firearm or some form of archery. Knives are excluded from this area; see the Knives category.

Knives: Throwing, slicing, dicing and everything that keep those stab-happy folks with a smile on their face.

Magic: Experience and Knowledge of spells, curses, hexes and other matters of the occult.

Perception: Being alert is a useful Trait. It can clue a person into an incoming attack or potential assassination.

Stealth: Being sneaky and fast on one’s feet is also useful. They can dodge a blow or dash out of harm’s way.

The two categories with the most points are a character’s two Traits. These skill points are added and included on all combat action rolls, which the exception of Perception and Stealth. If a character has either one – or both – the sum of points is subtracted from the opponent’s action roll.
